More progress shots of my project with Qwux! Here is a hairless cat! Here is the backside of the leather (the side that resembles suede) with our template traced onto it. Using the same technique as the dog mask; the back is clipped with bulldog clips to hold the creases in place, as the leather is gradually shaped and dried. **Pro Tip! Use extra leather scraps between the leather and the clip to avoid damage or staining to the surface.** Voilà! The finished product, now ready for painting and a little plastic nose. Here are some more progress pics form my current project with Qwux. Bunny gets a new coat of paint! The Mask: The Colours: The Results: The pink we used is a translucent colour, which has really worked in our favor as we can create a fantastic layered effect leaving some of the leather’s original textures and colours showing in the finished product. Or we can layer it up to achieve a denser more plastic look (eg. the ears). My first time using aerosol and I think I’m in love…...

Here are a few work-in-progress shots of some masks I’m building with artist/graphic designer extraordinaire Qwux for a wearable artwork. These bad boys are based on his “extra eyes” works that can be found on his website. Stay tuned for more process pics and info on leather making! Here is a dog. The leather is then cut to the template and soaked in warm water until thoroughly wet. Gradually drying as the leather is shaped helps to achieve more control over the design and makes fixing mistakes easy!
