Outernet

Outernet

Outernet explores how we (re)present ourselves and view others through the veil of cyberspace. The work explores the virtual world and its alluring ability to step outside who we really are, allowing us the ability to manipulate our identities to reflect our desires. The project was collaboration between myself and graphic designer Qwux. The performance takes place within the gallery setting, where as the audience enter they are engaged (confronted) by a masked avatar. As this takes place a live feed is projected within the space, also seen by the audience, toying with the idea of the voyeur and the...
His & Hers

His & Hers

His and Hers explores the superficiality of gender identity and cultural expectations of a society focused on a binary classification of sex. Second hand clothing has been re-purposed, embroidered with synthetic hair to reveal the innermost aspects of the human anatomy on the most outer part of our projected being: our clothing....
Play With Me

Play With Me

Play With Me is an invitation. The work delves into the levels of intimacy from the sensuous to the grotesque. The skeleton sits naked, devoid of any flesh, skin or organs. The sexual zones of the anatomy we associate with pleasure are missing from its body, it is physically empty. Though unable to feel any form of pleasure or comfort, it still begs the viewer to touch, to experience, to connect, in an almost infantile manner. The bare bones covered with fur lure the viewer with the promise of sensuous contact. Though its body is soft to touch, its temperature is cold, and its bones are hard, it is tantalizing yet wretched to behold. Our experience of intimacy is thus confused. This work attempts to open our awareness of our bodies and the levels to which we experience the pleasure of intimacy. Will you play with me?    ...
Object of My Affection

Object of My Affection

Video and gallery for the Object of My Affection installation. Object of My Affection is the first in the Mattress Series. The work explores female sexuality from an aggressively passionate perspective. The act of burning represents destruction but also passion the mattress as the remaining remnant left after a heated moment in time, with the video component exploring the memory of the act – slowed down, distorted and fetishised. The aim was to explore sexuality not as a passive receiver, but as an active peruser....
The art of breaking rules: Terms and Conditions at Nishi Gallery

The art of breaking rules: Terms and Conditions at Nishi Gallery

Canberra’s art scene is fast becoming a fishbowl of creativity, largely due to the Art, Not Apart festival that has become a yearly event featuring works form local and interstate creatives in the NewActon precinct. Last year I exhibited Play With Me at Nishi Gallery for the RED (Rise Exist Demise) exhibition curated by Chloe Mandryk, and I was thrilled to be invited to take part in the show again this year. The excellent thing about Art, Not Apart 2014 is that it’s developed from one single exhibition into an entire festival over the short period of just a year! On Saturday the 15th of March, I had the pleasure of taking part in the fun. Among the excellent creative talent that I got to exhibit along side at Nishi Gallery, there was a scaffold street party, live art, creative stalls, live music, food, terrarium building workshops (!!!!), live performance art and interactive art.  Massive props to David Caffery and Chloe Mandryk, and all others involved in set up and organisation! And special kudos to the creatives featured, it was a great weekend! If you’re local to the area or just passing through during this month, swing by Nishi Gallery and take a meander through Terms and Conditions, it’s open until the 31st of March. ——————————————————————- Terms and Conditions is a group exhibition of 11 contemporary emerging Australian artists. Featuring installation, video, performance, painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and poster art the works explore the ways in which we play (or rebel from) the rules of the art world, sexual encounters, health and other social constructions. Terms and Conditions are set by ourselves, directed at each...
Colouring with Qwux

Colouring with Qwux

Here are some more progress pics form my current project with Qwux. Bunny gets a new coat of paint! The Mask:   The Colours:   The Results: The pink we used is a translucent colour, which has really worked in our favor as we can create a fantastic layered effect leaving some of the leather’s original textures and colours showing in the finished product. Or we can layer it up to achieve a denser more plastic look (eg. the ears). My first time using aerosol and I think I’m in love…...
