Coming to SLAMstudio Stitch, You Bitch is a collaborative exhibition between myself and fellow artist Thalia Sadumiano. The show features old and new works we’ve created independently and as a collaboration. The show runs between the 4th and 25th of FEBRUARY. Come join us for drinks on opening night, starting at 6:00pm Friday the 4th of February. SLAMstudio is located at 859 South Dowling st. Waterloo, Sydney. “Stitch, You Bitch is a show that explores the rituals and traditions surrounding death, the home and the body through the exploration of traditional handy craft techniques such as sewing, quilting and knitting. Thalia Sadumiano and Celine Roberts de-construct the ideals of femininity and gender roles through reviving skills they believe are otherwise lost. When playing with these techniques or skills they introduce a contemporary sensitivity that suggests a dislocation of said traditions, whilst opening up a generational conversation that occurs with the passing down of these rituals and...

Here is a sneak peak of my current project “In Loving Memory” for the COFA Annual. The work is a site specific installation consisting of hand knitted cozies made to fit 16 of the headstones in a Sydney cemetery. This work comments on the loss of the Death Ritual in contemporary western culture. Similar to the way that we clothe our dead before burial or cremation, I clothe the headstones giving each its own unique personality and bringing colour into an otherwise colourless space. Each is made to fit, with colours and textures specific to the age, sex and date of death of the deceased. More images to come after the COFA...
