The art of breaking rules: Terms and Conditions at Nishi Gallery

Canberra’s art scene is fast becoming a fishbowl of creativity, largely due to the Art, Not Apart festival that has become a yearly event featuring works form local and interstate creatives in the NewActon precinct.

Last year I exhibited Play With Me at Nishi Gallery for the RED (Rise Exist Demise) exhibition curated by Chloe Mandryk, and I was thrilled to be invited to take part in the show again this year.

The excellent thing about Art, Not Apart 2014 is that it’s developed from one single exhibition into an entire festival over the short period of just a year! On Saturday the 15th of March, I had the pleasure of taking part in the fun. Among the excellent creative talent that I got to exhibit along side at Nishi Gallery, there was a scaffold street party, live art, creative stalls, live music, food, terrarium building workshops (!!!!), live performance art and interactive art.  Massive props to David Caffery and Chloe Mandryk, and all others involved in set up and organisation! And special kudos to the creatives featured, it was a great weekend!

If you’re local to the area or just passing through during this month, swing by Nishi Gallery and take a meander through Terms and Conditions, it’s open until the 31st of March.

Terms and Conditions is a group exhibition of 11 contemporary emerging Australian artists.

Featuring installation, video, performance, painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and poster art the works explore the ways in which we play (or rebel from) the rules of the art world, sexual encounters, health and other social constructions. Terms and Conditions are set by ourselves, directed at each other and held up by ideological systems, particularly a market based economy.
